Quality

Quality herbal teas start with quality herbs and spices. Celestial Seasonings purchases more than 100 varieties of the finest quality herbs, spices and fruits from more than 35 different countries to make our enchanting teas. Each herb and spice has its own flavour and taste characteristics and creates delicious natural taste treats when blended.

Celestial Seasonings botanicals experts personally sample and select entire crops for purchase. Once the herbs and spices arrive in Boulder, they are inspected and tested again. If they fail to meet any of our strict standards for cleanliness, purity, freshness and flavour, they are rejected. The approved herbs are cleaned and inspected once again, and then sent to the milling room to be cut into the different degrees of fineness needed for individual tea blends. Finally, they are sifted to achieve the uniform texture and pure content profile necessary to deliver consistent, delicious flavour.

Under the watchful eyes of the Celestial Seasonings Blendmaster, the herbs are then blended to match a standard recipe. The batch is compared with previous blends and readjusted until it is absolutely perfect in terms of consistency, quality and flavour, and only then is it carefully packaged for delivery to stores around the world.

The extensive use of environmentally conscious products, manufacturing processes, packaging materials and company-wide recycling programs distinguishes Celestial Seasonings as a truly all-natural company.

Celestial Seasonings products are made with all-natural raw materials and ingredients of the highest quality, and are free of preservatives and artificial colourings and flavourings.

We do use a variety of natural flavours in many of our products because they enhance the flavours of other ingredients. Our natural flavours are derived primarily from fruits, spices and herbs, and never contain monosodium glutamate (MSG).

Environmentally Conscious Packaging

Responsible Paper Consumption. Celestial Seasonings uses as little packaging as possible for our products. The Company’s ongoing, innovative use of environmentally friendly packaging illustrates our commitment to the environment.

The Company’s unique pillow tea bag requires no strings, tags, staples, individual overwrapping or foil envelopes. This practice saves over 1,500 tons of waste from entering landfills each year. None of our tea bag papers contain starch or gluten. Our tea bags are made of a blend of chlorine-free natural fibers—another way we make it good for you … and for our planet.

The bags are packaged in cardboard boxes made from 100% recycled paperboard, and the paperboard is made from at least 35% post-consumer waste material. The boxes include resealable interior liners that keep the all-natural teas fresh from the first bag to the last.

Sustainable Sourcing

The Celestial Seasonings team of botanical buyers travels the world to meet with family farmers and tea estate managers who produce teas, herbs and spices, and promote economic growth through socially conscious and environmentally sustainable production. To conserve natural resources, plant products are grown on small farms within their indigenous areas. This ensures that the plant products Celestial Seasonings buys are collected or harvested without undue harm to the environment, while local jobs and businesses are supported.

All-Natural Decaffeination Process

Celestial Seasonings uses a process called “effervescent decaffeination” to remove the caffeine from green and black teas. This process uses carbon dioxide (CO2): the same natural compound that plants breathe in daily.

A Consistent Cup of Tea

The Celestial Seasonings Blendmaster blends like ingredients (from different lots) and adjusts formulas to achieve a consistent balance in each batch. All potential ingredients our suppliers offer are tasted, and 90% of all samples are rejected because they do not meet Celestial Seasonings high quality standards. For consumers, this means no matter what favourite tea they buy, it will have the same quality and taste from one cup to the next.
